Rail to North Bengal

Book an Indian Railways train to Hasimara or New Alipurduar, continue by road to Jaigaon–Phuentsholing, and then travel onward to Paro. This is a longer journey, so allow an additional travel day.

A few simple courtesies help visitors honour Bhutan’s living culture, sacred places and protected environment.

  • Wear long sleeves and cover your legs when visiting temples and sacred sites.
  • Remove shoes, caps and hats before entering sacred places.
  • Ask before photographing people, ceremonies or religious spaces.
  • Carry your passport or voter ID and required permit while travelling.
  • Follow your guide’s advice and keep Bhutan’s landscapes clean.

Don’t

  • Do not photograph inside temples where photography is restricted.
  • Do not touch religious paintings, sacred objects or ceremonial items.
  • Do not sit on lamas’ sacred thrones or disturb prayer spaces.
  • Do not speak loudly or behave casually during prayers and ceremonies.
  • Do not litter or leave waste on trails, near rivers or at monasteries.
